Supported by an $8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Project ENGAGE aims to scale an effective program for teachers called CARE (Cultivating Awareness and Resilience in Education). This unique professional development program helps educators handle the stresses and rediscover the joys of teaching and working in education.
The goal of CARE is to offer teachers and administrators tools and resources for reducing stress, preventing burnout, enlivening their work, and helping students thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.
Previous research shows that CARE promotes teacher well-being and supports their capacity to cultivate a positive classroom climate. CARE also promotes student engagement, motivation, and reading competence. CARE may also support teacher retention.
Based on these results, the CDC recommends CARE for teacher well-being and a key strategy for supporting school mental health.
